Gear 5 is the awakened form of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which strengthens the user's rubbery body. It also allows the user the ability to manipulate and transform their environment, similar to a Paramecia's awakening. Luffy achieved this ability during his final battle with Kaidou on Onigashima.
In this state, Luffy's heartbeat takes on a musical rhythm, while his hair and clothes (with the exception of his signature straw hat, belt, and sandals) turn white. His eyes glow with red ring-like pupils, and white clouds float around his neck. His eyebrows also become swirled and billowing.
